A farmer had the strangest goose,
No stranger bird could be -
For ever day a GOLDEN egg
Lay where an egg should be!
"Eureka! I'm a lucky man,"
Said Farmer, "Who would know?Inside this strange and magic bird
Eggs of gold do grow!"
The farmer now, no longer poor
Had money in the bank. And every day grew richer still -
His golden goose to thank!
Yet, getting rich not fast enough
(The eggs were only small)
He thought he'd kill the magic goose,
To quicker have them all.
But after deed was done and set
He found to his surprise,
Instead of getting all - got none:
There were no eggs inside!
So be forewarned, my children dear,
As you go down through life:
That greedy thoughts will get you naught
But trouble, toil and strife!
